What could be more cheerful than a little ‘field’ of erythronium tuolumnense on a sunny Sunday morning? These beauties came from my grandmother’s garden 20 years ago and have gently formed a colony. Also known as fawn lily or dogtooth lily (for the canine tooth-shaped bulb) the plants go dormant in June and are not seen again until their leaves begin to reappear in February. Native to California’s Sierra Nevada, specifically endemic to Yosemite area. I have no idea how she came to have them, perhaps from one of her co-collector gardening friends, some 50-60 years ago. # erythronium tuolumnense #fawnlily #dogtoothlily #nativeplants #springblooms

Working on tropical foliage, especially how to paint the many types of palm leaves/fronds. Using a dagger brush in a dry brush style seems to be most effective for fronds of large palms.
